Zoological Botanical Garden Wilhelma
The Wilhelma is anything but a normal zoo. This is predominantly because the complex was built in 1850 for King Wilhelm I. of Württemberg as “Garden house with residential buildings and ornamental greenhouses in Moorish style” But also the animal world – especially the apes – enjoys world fame: only here do all four species live in family groups with plentiful offspring. With around 10,000 animals in almost 1,000 species, the Wilhelma is one of Germany’s zoos housing the most species and its botanical side is also impressive with around 5,000 varieties.
TV Tower
Towering majestically from the woods on the Hohe Bosser (483 m above sea level) rising from the Stuttgart valley basin, the TV Tower is the emblem of the city. Following a construction period of only 20 months, it went into operation in February 1956 as the first TV tower in the world. Then as now it is a popular excursion point with two big attractions: firstly, it offers super views across the city to the hills of the Schwäbische Alb, secondly, its panorama restaurant serves delicious local specialities like Maultaschen (filled pasta). A feast for the eyes!
